Vera Katherine Boomer, daughter of Ben Bryan Davis and Ida LaVerne Bourland Davis, was born July 21, 1942 at Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sebastian County. She departed this life at The Lakeview Home, La Mesa, California, on Wednesday September 13, passing quietly in her sleep at around 11:20 P.M., attaining the age of 75 years, 1 month and 23 days. Kathy grew up in Booneville, Arkansas, until the family removed to the Lind Vista area of San Diego at the age of nine. Her father was employed at Convair Aeronautics until his retirement. Kathy, as she was always known among family, friends and those at her church, graduated from Kearney High School in Linda Vista. She was always involved in support of her church, Calvary Southern Baptist Church of Linda Vista, in some way. She was a helper in the nursery during service. Kathy met her future husband when he and another Navy man visited the church and he fell completely for her. After their marriage Kathy and her husband served as nursery workers and then as third grade Sunday school teachers. On October 2, 1965, Kathy was married to Roger Allen Boomer, USN, at Calvary church. They resided in Linda Vista until 1968, when they relocated to make their present home in Lemon Grove, where they raised their four children. They continued to worship at Calvary until relocating to First Baptist Clairemont. She worked for a number of years in the school cafeteria until the last of her children passed through Lemon Grove Middle School, and then she retired so she could concentrate on loving and assisting in the raising of her grandchildren. She especially looked forward to the time spent with her family. Camping, road trips to Nebraska and Arkansas were highlights. The good times came to the beginning of the end when Kathy was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. After a strenuous bout with radiation therapy, she had some good years until the cancer re-occurred in her lung, pancreas and brain. Kathy stood the good fight until GOD called her home and made everything well. She was preceded in her passing by her parents, father Ben and mother La Verne. Left to treasure her memory are her children; Bryan Boomer of Spring Valley, California; Jennifer Boomer of San Diego, California; Michael Boomer and wife Azucena of Santee, California; and Amy Raycraft and husband RC of Santee, California. Seven grandchildren blessed her; Cristopher Boomer, US Army of Fort Stewart, Georgia and Stephanie and Samantha Boomer of Santee, California; Jacob and Matthew Raycraft of Santee, California; Joshua and Rachel Greenstein of San Diego, California; brothers Keneth Davis and wife Linda of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Billie Davis of Booneville, Arkansas, Jimmie Davis and wife Pam of El Cajon, California; sister Juanita Caruthers of Prineville, Oregon; other relatives and a host of friends. IN APPRECIATION… On behalf of the family of Kathy, we wish to express our gratitude for your many kindnesses evidenced in thought and deed and for your attendance at her memorial service. GOD Bless You
