Vera Mitchell Vera Mitchell passed away on July 3, 2018 in Tacoma, WA from the effects of Alzheimer's. Born on May 3, 1936 in Bingerbruck, Germany, Vera made the courageous decision to migrate to the United States with her young family in 1968, eventually settling in Tacoma where she raised her four daughters. She was a professional seamstress and held many jobs over her lifetime. She was proud of her German heritage and loved asking strangers if they could detect her accent and guess the country of her birth. She also got a kick out of teaching her grandchildren German words (especially expletives) and tricking them into hunting for gold (dog poop) in her back yard. Vera is survived by her sister Liselotte Mendyk (and husband, Max); her four daughters: Carmen Jenkins (Thelford), Kay Payne (David), Jackie Joseph, and Cissy Mitchell; nine grandchildren (Brian, Kimberly, Samantha, Darius Adam, Genea, Tyler, Lanai, Kelsey, and Josh), and seven great-grandchildren (Kyleigh, Tristaine, Alyssa, Dupree, Tyler Rose, Azir, and Luka). She was preceded in death by her father (Karl Proll), mother (Helene Proll), husband (Andrew Lee Mitchell), and niece (Britta Mendyk). At Vera's request, a memorial service will not be held but a final viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17th from 2:00 to 4:00pm at The Lakeview Chapel at 4606 108th St. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial, Funerals Homes, Chapels and Crematories. 253-566-1008
