Vera "Maina" D. Peleti

Maina entered this life on May 1, 1932 in Pago Pago, American Samoa and entered into rest on May 9, 2018 at the age of 86 years in San Diego, California. She will be deeply missed by her sons Glenn (Lyn), Wayne (Martha), Paul, and Duke (Kathy) Peleti, daughter Melina Corcoran and grandchildren Meilani, Merina, Matt and Paul and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tui, of 62 years. Maina has resided in the Jamul and San Diego area for the past 48 years. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She was a faithful member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in San Diego. Maina had a fun loving, vibrant personality and enjoyed socializing. She was one of the few people who could walk into a room full of strangers and leave with a room full of new friends. As a young girl, she left Samoa to attend Punahou High School in Hawaii. Upon graduation, she then travelled to Los Angeles where she attended Whittier College. At the age of 19, she met a handsome airman named Tui. He was so smitten with this lovely lady, he proposed marriage on their second date. They were married a few months later. Their 62 year union produced four sons and four grandchildren. They were the highlight of Maina’s long and beautiful life. She battled Alzheimer’s with her trademark of graciousness and congeniality. She looked forward to being with Dad again in heaven and knowing Mom she’s now happily updating him on everything. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 4-8pm at Legacy Funeral Chapel, 7043 University Ave., La Mesa, California. Maina will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 3:00pm at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 6801 Easton Ct., San Diego, California.
