Vera Arvella Tregoning
October 13th, 1929 - April 28th, 2019
Vera Arvella Tregoning of Johnstown, Colorado slipped away peacefully on Sunday April 28, 2019 instead of kicking and screaming as was expected. Vera, the eldest of three, was born October 13, 1929 in Limon, Colorado to Earl and Hazel (Thomas) Nicks. In early years, the family followed farm work even living in a covered wagon in the Longmont area. They eventually settled on the Mae Snedden (Kinzer) farm in Johnstown. Vera graduated from Johnstown High School in 1948 and moved to Greeley and began working at the old Greeley Hospital. After becoming engaged on Valentine’s Day, Vera married the boy next door, Vern Tregoning on July 10, 1948 and they never left Johnstown. Her mother-in-law Stella (Hawkins) Tregoning held a special place in her heart. Vera and Vern had two children; Billy and Saundra. They celebrated 64 years together before Vern’s death also on Valentine’s Day, 2013. After her children began school, Vera worked at Hays Market in Johnstown for both Therman and Chet Hays. "Mrs. T’s” favorite job was working in the office at Roosevelt High School and as the Pep Club sponsor. She had front row seats to her son’s sporting events. Vera lead a life of giving and enjoyed every minute; volunteering at the Johnstown VFW as a waitress for Friday dinners, as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, delivering Meals on Wheels, and providing end of life care for both of her parents. Supporting the United Methodist Church for years, she volunteered in nearly every area from cooking and serving to rummage sales. Vera enjoyed her flowers, gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, staying up late and extremely hot coffee, but most enjoyed spending time with her family including her little dog Moose. Vera knew everyone in town, and most will remember her in her little red speedy Volkswagen. They were thankful she never ran them over. In 2010 she suffered a devastating loss in the death of her son, Bill on Christmas Day. Vera is remembered by her daughter, Saundra Rock of Greeley; her granddaughter, Laura (Ben) Tregoning-Drotar of Arvada and her great-grandchildren; Bessette, Grant and AraBella; Grandchildren, Jennifer Kilner and Christopher Tregoning and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Vern, Son Bill, Son-in-law Michael Rock, siblings Earlene Eckhardt and Gerald Nicks, and her beloved Yorkie Moose. They are all dancing in heaven together. Life Celebration Services will be held Monday, May 6 at 10:30 am at the Johnstown United Methodist Church, 108 King Ave with a lunch to follow. Inurnment 1 pm at the Johnstown Cemetery. All are welcome to remember this feisty spirited woman, whom we will never forget. Memorial contributions may be made to "Foundation for Prader-Willi Research” https://www.fpwr.org/donate or sent in care of the family, 1017 Charlotte Street, Johnstown, CO 80534. Condolences may be sent to AdamsonCares.com.
