VERA I. WANKE age 81 of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday September 4, 2010. She was born on December 24, 1928 in Waterford Wisconsin, daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Naber) Schaefer. She attended St. Fredericks Grade School in South Milwaukee. She married Joseph Wanke on April 12, 1958 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jefferson. Vera was employed at Patrick Cudahy Meats and at Ace Foods. She also was the housekeeper from 1950-2002 for the St. Lawrence Rectory. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women. She also volunteered many hours. Vera was a gracious lady, quietly serving the Lord in countless ways, ministering to friends, neighbors and strangers every opportunity she could. She will be deeply missed by her husband Joseph Wanke of Jefferson Her daughter Mary Wanke and her husband James Stedman of Maryville TN Sons; Jerome Wanke of Fort Atkinson, and James Wanke of Jefferson. Grandchildren; Andrea and Caitlin Stedman and Robyn Jo Wanke. She is preceded in death by her sisters; Bernice Johnson, Helen Schaefer, Mary Louise Schaefer, Brothers; her twin brother Rev. Verne B. Schaefer, Roman, David, Robert, Edward, Joseph, Norbert, Paul, George, and Gerald Schaefer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 11, 2010 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle and Rev. John Urban officiating, burial will be on Monday at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield. Visitation also at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:45a.m. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson with Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be giving in Vera's name to St. Lawrence Catholic church Parish Nurses Fund, or to St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
