Vernon L. Steele

Vernon L. Steele passed away June 26, 2015 in Olympia, Washington. He was born August 4, 1930 to George W. and Elise M. (Phatzer) Steele in Fillmore, North Dakota. Vern served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1960, during the Korean War. He had an ENCO service station in the early ‘60s, moved to a shop at home through the ‘70s, and retired from the Thurston County Road Department. He was a member of the VFW and Eagles, and lived in Thurston County for 60 years. Vern loved hunting, fishing, crabbing and clamming on the canal, and sitting around campfires, drinking beer and telling stories. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Steele; sons, Larry Steele (Kathy) and Vern Steele Jr.; daughters, Janie (Gary Williams) and Cheryl (Tom Bamoni); eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Clayton Steele; and sister, Darlene “Sissy” Cline. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Harold and Ralph; and sisters, Dorthy, Delores and Glenna. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW at 2902 Martin Way E, Olympia, WA 98506.
