Vicki Ellen (Royer) Bakker, 78, of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away at home on June 30, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born Vicki Ellen Royer on March 5, 1946 in Norfolk, Virginia to Willard and Katherene Royer. Some of her fondest childhood memories were living on a farm in Butler, IL. When she was 9, her family moved to Los Alamos, NM. Mom would tell how homesick she was for the farm when she first moved to NM, but soon found a new freedom wandering the beautiful mountains and canyons around Los Alamos. She graduated from LAHS in 1964 and soon after moved to Albuquerque with her job.
This was a fortuitous move as Vicki met the love of her life, Morrie Bakker, on February 18, 1966 at the swimming pool of Casa Del Norte apartments. Morrie loves to tell how he first saw Vicki at the swimming pool. Vicki was home sick from work that day. Ten months later Vicki married Morrie on December 2, 1966. and they remained in love for just shy of 58 years. Their love produced 3 children, Tanya, Tara and Aaron.
Vicki left the workforce when she became a mother. She gave up morning commutes to become a stay-at-home mom, "taxi" service, counselor, life coach, cheerleader and much more for her family. This was her favorite career. But as the nest started to empty she began working again, first at Hope Christian Schools where she taught 4th grade. Then the Lord opened the door for her real calling at Family Therapy of Albuquerque where she ministered Jesus' love to clients and staff for 20 years. Vicki was also active in her church, singing, ushering, working in the book store and generally loving on everyone she met.
Vicki was a wonderful grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. They were the joy of her later years. She spent as much time as possible playing games with them, having tea parties, taking them on walks, attending events, watching endless plays and teaching them to love Jesus.
Vicki will be remembered by her family for her devotion and her commitment to creating a warm and loving home. She is cherished by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
Vicki is survived by her husband Morrie, Children Tanya (Ron) Kil of Santa Fe, Tara Casados of Aurora, CO, Aaron (Anna) of Baton Rouge, LA. Grandchildren: Tiffany, Jennie, Jordan, Katelynn, Victoria, Jubilee, Kayleigh, Abigail, Aidyn, and Ashtyn(Zeke). Great grandchildren Alexis, Eva, Emilia, Roland, Ezra, Easton, Mikalya, Ezekiel and David, sisters Bonnie Young, Mary David and Barbara Gardner, and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her brother George (Butch) Royer and youngest sister Linda Kay Royer.
Special thanks to Presbyterian Hospice nurse Genevieve for her loving care of Vicki.
