Vicki Jo Crockett

Vicki Jo Crockett Resident of Alamo, California Our beautiful, strong wife and mother Vicki Crockett, age 71, of Alamo, California passed away peacefully on September 10, 2019 from complications of a stroke. Vicki was born in Lovell, Wyoming on August 28, 1948 to Josie and Victor Winterholler. Even at a young age Vicki was a leader and a friend to all who knew her. The oldest of six children growing up on a Wyoming ranch, she learned how to work hard, and this served her throughout her life. Vicki was always focused on making other peoples lives better through friendship, service, and a deep testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ. She graduated from Lovell High School and then from Brigham Young University in Home Economics where she met her beloved husband Jay Crockett, and then followed him to medical school in St. Louis where she taught seventh grade. They were soon engaged and married on June 12, 1970 in the LDS Oakland California Temple. Vicki and Jay started their family in Oakland, California, and then later moved to Lafayette and Martinez where they made many life-long friends before settling in Alamo. In Alamo they raised five children, and treasured priceless friendships throughout the community. One of Vickis greatest accomplishments was her children. The passion and dedication she brought to the development of her children was tremendous. Her home was a both a laboratory of learning and a vibrant and bustling hive of activity where she reigned as queen bee. Vicki had a unique passion for knowledge that could be used to help others, both from a practical and spiritual perspective. She was well known for reaching out to those in need, especially to teens and young adults. She served as president of the Alamo Womens Club and was involved in and committed to civic events and issues. Everyone who knew Vicki was taught in someway by her. She worked as a teachers aide at Alamo Elementary, an LDS seminary teacher, a private art teacher and a professional life coach for teens. She served faithfully in many church positions, bringing a creative eye and an understanding heart to each assignment. Within her large circle of family and friends she was well-known for her generosity, her desire for excellence and her insatiable zest for life. She loved to keep a beautiful home and garden that was open to all. She threw elaborate birthday parties for her children and made every holiday memorable with special foods and traditions. She kept endless storage boxes filled with trains, dolls, art supplies, and other toys for the grandchildren and would sit with them for hours playing together or sharing a piece of Sees candy or bag of M&Ms. The great trial of Vickis life was a severe stroke in 2012. Faced with limited mobility and speech, she nevertheless worked diligently to regain as much physical ability as she could. Her stubbornness and humor stood her in good stead, as she learned to compose notes and cards left-handed and still directed and participated in family events. During the 7 years of life after her stroke, and despite the trying circumstances, Vicki never once complained and always had a smile for anyone who entered her presence. Her testimony in the gospel and of her Savior provided much comfort and solace to her, as she trusted that this event was a part of her spirits journey and for her ultimate good. Her family is profoundly grateful for her many friends, caregivers, and therapists who helped support and encourage her during these past years. Vicki is survived by her eternal companion John A. Crockett, children Tyler Crockett (Kristen), Caroline Brock (Aaron), Ben Crockett (Mandi), Joel Crockett (Mandi Lyn), Marianne Twiss (Josh), and 21 beloved grandchildren. She is also survived by her five siblings: Sherry Fredricksen (Eric), Carol Doerr (Jerry), David Winterholler (Susie), Daniel Winterholler (Darlene), Marcie Baird (Eric), as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Josie Tippetts Winterholler and Victor Winterholler. Vickis funeral will be held Saturday, September 21 at the LDS Danville Stake Center at 655 Old Orchard Drive, Danville, CA. Viewing from 9:00 -10:00 am with funeral services following at 10:30 am.. Interment at the Oakmont Cemetery.
