Vilma Reich died on January 24, 2017 in Portland, Oregon, where she had moved in October 2016. She was born in Vasvár, Hungary on December 20, 1923 to István and Mária Raskow. She and her husband Alex and three children immigrated to the United States in 1952, settling in Billings, Montana with the help of First Congregational Church, where she was a long-time member. Her beloved Alex and son Robie predeceased her. She leaves her daughters Judy Rothrock (Roger) and Erika Giles (Leon), grandchildren Monika Samper (Mark) and Scott Torrey, all of Portland; four great-grandchildren; and her sister Eva Horvath of Havre. All who knew Vilma appreciated her sense of humor, her curiosity, her intelligence, and her kindness. She loved reading and doing crossword puzzles. Above all, she enjoyed a good visit and keeping current on politics and the activities of her family and many friends. There will be no formal service, per her wishes. Recently, she said she wanted those who would attend a memorial service for her to instead take time to help someone else, do something they enjoy, or be nice to someone they love, in her memory. Memorial donations are suggested to: Meals on Wheels of Adult Resource Alliance, 1505 Avenue D, Billings, MT 59102.
