Vincent Charles Vik
June 16th, 1951 - January 25th, 2023
Vincent Charles Vik (b. June 16, 1951, in Saint Paul), in the presence of family, passed into the Hands of Our Creator on January 25, 2023. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend – musician, composer, scholar, teacher, diver and all-around athlete, world traveler and adventurer, naturalist, philosopher, poet, photographer – an unforgettable Renaissance Man. A graduate of Cretin High School, studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and at the University of Minnesota. A percussionist and trumpeter in numerous groups, including the Cretin High School Marching Band that represented Minnesota at the Inauguration of President Richard Nixon, the University of Minnesota Marching Band and Concert Band, rock and jazz bands, FAME (Filipino-American Musical Ensemble), Latin and other multi-cultural bands, and orchestras. Preceded by his beloved father, Vincent E. Vik; and baby grandson William. Survived by his beloved wife Nilda, daughters Sheila (Peter) Thao, Sharon (See) Lee, Sherry (Tony) Larson; mother Mary Vik; sisters Mary Lemmons, Barbara Vik, and Teri Pardo; brothers Steve (Suzette) Vik and John (Monica) Vik; grandchildren Jasmine, Tyler, Joshua, Austin, Meka, Ayden, Olivia, Henry, and George; and many nieces and nephews. Never was there, nor will there ever be, such a soul as Vince’s. Visitation Wednesday, February 1st, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Mass at 11:00 a.m., luncheon following Mass at the Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 East County Road 42, Burnsville, MN 55306. Memorials preferred to Como Park Zoo and/or Minnesota Zoo, and/or find a way to provide music lessons for kids.
