Vincenzo Sasso

Mr. Vincenzo Sasso, 78, of Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 31, 2021 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Alife, Caserta, Italy on December 16, 1942, a son of the late Gabriele and Cristina Sasso. He attended schools in Italy and came to the United States in 1962. Vince started his career as a tailor apprentice at 10 years old. He learned his trade and started work when he came here to Amsterdam at the former Market Hill Dry Cleaning. He then became tailor for the former Mortan's Clothing Store in Amsterdam for many years. He later started his own business; "Vince the Tailor" in Amsterdam and continued that until his retirement due to his health. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Vince enjoyed playing soccer on various teams in the capital district and playing bocce on various teams and leagues in Amsterdam. He would go out of his way to help others and truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his granddaughter, Gianna. Vincenzo married Maria T. Konieczny Sasso on September 30, 1973. In addition to his loving wife Maria, he is survived by his two dear children, Teresa Santos of Amsterdam and Gabriel Sasso and his fiancé Brittany of Amsterdam. His cherished granddaughter, Gianna Santos of Amsterdam. His dear sister, Filomena DeMartinis of Amsterdam and brothers, Giovanni Sasso of Amsterdam, Giuseppe (Emilia) Sasso of Italy and Salvatore (Anne) Sasso of Amsterdam. His brother-in-law, Joseph (Anna) Konieczny of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Victoria Konieczny, a niece, Luisa A. DeMartinis and brother-in-law, Tullio DeMartinis. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, calling hours are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday February 5, 2021 at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell St. Amsterdam, NY with Vincenzo's nephew, Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. If attending Mass Please follow NYS guidelines, wear a mask and practice social distancing. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed for your convenience on the church's Facebook page; St Stans Holy Door on Friday at 11:00AM. Private entombment will be in the family mausoleum in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
