Virginia Cordell Cook Mrs. Cook, 89, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013, at White Oak Manor after a brief illness. She was born on August 6, 1923 in Shelby, NC, daughter of the late Charles and Etta Harrill Cordell. After graduating from Asheville Business College, Mrs. Cook went to work for the F.B.I. in Washington D.C. She then returned to Shelby, NC, where she met and married George S. Cook. Together they moved to Charlotte, where Mrs. Cook owned and operated a beauty shop. Mrs. Cook loved the outdoors, feeding and watching birds, gardening and giving the neighborhood dogs treats. She also loved to read and do word search puzzles. Mrs. Cook also loved her church, Pritchard Memorial Baptist. She was an active member for over 50 years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook is preceded in death by her husband, George S. Cook, Sr. She is survived by her four children, Glenda Jennings and her husband, Roger, of Summerville, SC, Sherry Ward and her husband, Tom, of Matthews, NC, George S. Cook, Jr. of Indian Trail, NC and Lynn Wolper of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Martha Walker, Denise Clayton, White Oak Manor Nursing Home and Elmcroft Assisted Living for all of their loving care. Her funeral service will be at 1:30 PM, Monday, March 11, 2013 at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Mint Hill, NC. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2013 from 3:00 until 5:00 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Rd., 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540 or Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
