Ways you can honor Virginia's memory:
The family said their final good-byes to Virginia May Haywood, "G.G.", 94, of Tacoma, Wa. who died on July 28th. Virginia was born on May 9, 1921, the daughter of William and Christina Mahoney. She was the widow of Curtis E. Haywood. Virginia is survived by daughters: Christine White and Paulette Bridges (Ben) and sons: Gregory Haywood, Jonathan Haywood (Marcy),and foster son, Morry Webster. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons, a nephew and nieces, especially her dear niece, Margie Rivers. After her husband died, Virginia worked in real estate. Her passion revolved around her family and her home on 96th St.. Virginia and husband, Curt, served as foster care parents for several years. She was hospitable and friendly -always having a cup of coffee and homemade treats for visitors and loved ones. She was a member of St. Ann's Parish for nearly all her life and past member of the Parents Club and director of St. Vincent de Paul at the parish level. Born and raised entirely in Tacoma, she loved her town. She was a community activist with South End community groups that supported the enhancement of neighborhood safety, schools, and parks. She received several civic awards for her participation. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, playing cards, painting, and beach walking. "At her window a light was always kept burning. All were welcome in, the arms of a friend were waiting". We will miss those arms. Many thanks to Kings Manor Assisted Living and, most recently, the Spring Ridge Memory Care. Also, warm thanks to Franciscan Hospice Care. On Wednesday, Aug. 5, at St. Ann's Parish Church, a rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM. Mass will follow at 11:00. Lunch follows at the Reception Hall.
