Virginia Louise Jones, 92, of Severna Park, passed away on September 11, 2016, in her home surrounded by friends and four generations of family. Virginia was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to Marie Louise and William Holmes Carson on May 1, 1924. She graduated from Radnor High School. During WWII, Virginia enjoyed volunteering for the USO. In 1949, she married Wesley Norwood Jones. One of Virgina and Wesley's prides was helping found a local private school, Bay Country School of Severna Park, MD. Throughout her life, Virginia was devoted to her children. She and Wesley volunteered with their four son's Boy Scout troops and their daughter's Girl Scouts. They loved taking the family sailing, flying their Cessna airplane, helping the children assemble their Heath Kit Electronics sets. Virginia and Wesley enjoyed providing a local hangout for all the neighborhood kids. Virginia often reminisced her loving devotion to her grandmother, "Nanny". She and "Nanny" shared a great love for animals. Growing up, Virginia had a pet goat, chickens, canaries, and many others. She passed that love for animals to several of her children by allowing them to own snakes (which often escaped!), hamsters(also escapees!), gerbils, mice, parrots, lizards, ducks, rabbits and dogs. On a trip to visit a cousin in Maine, the family came home with a pet baby raccoon, "Zip". The Jones family's most notorious and infamous pet was, "Zipper", the crow. On Virginia's 82nd birthday, the family surprised her with an 8 week old schnauzer puppy, "Bink", who became a wonderful joy and companion to her in her later years. Virginia is preceded in death by her husband Wesley Norwood and two of her children, Walter Holmes Jones and William Bailey Jones. Her surviving family are her brother, William H. Carson, three children: Wesley Carson Jones of Raleigh, North Carolina, Annie Bailey Cox (Peter) of Severna Park and Ransom Sanders Jones (Ann) of Pasadena, Md. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Marie Louise Valentonis (Jamie), Peter Cox III (Genevieve), Jonathan Cox, Ransom Jones, Jr. (Melissa), and Nathan Jones and four great-grandchildren: Dean and Ellie Valentonis, and Alexander and Zachary Jones. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10am, Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Crosspointe Church in Arnold, Md. (365 Jones Station Road, Arnold, Md.21012) The service will be followed by a lunch reception. All are welcome. The family of Virginia wishes to thank all of the friends and family, and Hospice of the Chesapeake for their prayers, care and support over the last few months. Memorials may be donated to Hospice of the Chesapeake.
