Virginia C. Satcher, 79, of Charlotte, NC, entered Heaven's gates Saturday August 10, 2013 from the Levine & Dickson Hospice House & Palliative Care Center in Huntersville, NC. Virginia was born October 18, 1933 in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Brig. Hughey and Coalla Chancey. She was blissfully united in marriage to Claiborne Satcher in 1952 and they had two daughters, Kay and Daun. Virginia and Clay attended The Salvation Army School for Officer's Training and dedicated many years of service to The Salvation Army. They began their work in Tulsa, OK, became the Divisional Youth Secretaries in the Washington, DC Division and spent many years working in various Boys' and Girls' Clubs in Atlanta, GA and the North and South Carolinas Division. Virginia received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from University of North Carolina at Charlotte and earned her Master of Fine Arts Degree at Winthrop University. She was an accomplished pianist and gifted accompanist, composer, and playwright. Her work with youth left lasting and significant impact on their lives and inspired many to find their talent and share it with the world. She enjoyed reading, bird watching and sewing. Her five grandchildren and two great grandchildren were especially a source of joy. She is survived by her husband Claiborne (Clay) Satcher (Charlotte, NC), daughter Daun Ledwell and her husband, David of Sterling, Va.; grandchildren, Sam and Ben Jones, Kimberly, Virginia, and Katherine Ledwell, and great-grandchildren, Alexander and Addison Jones; two brothers, Richard of Houston, Texas and David Chancey of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kay, her brother Gilbert Chancey, and sister, Peggy Brewer. The Satcher family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House and to longtime, devoted family friends, Barbara Butler, Marsha Walker, and Klondina Kitchen. A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at The Salvation Army Temple Corps. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am before the funeral service. Burial will take place at the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA on Wednesday August 14, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House, in care of Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region. 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, www.hpccr.org.
