Virginia Nell Gideon Zurcher was born on May 14, 1917 in Bethesda, Ohio, the daughter of Olive Mae (Jenkins) and Ernest Clyde Gideon. She was Valedictorian of her class at Bethesda High School. She and her husband Charles Lawrence moved to Moundsville, West Virginia. As a member of the Church of the Nazarene, she served on the church board, as treasure and as Sunday school teacher. She was the recipient of many awards for dressmaking, hat design and pie baking. She was an active member of The Homemakers in Moundsville, West Virginia. She was district manager of Fuller Brush for many years. She was a resident of Newton Falls, Ohio for several years before moving back to Moundsville to be with her father. Upon her husband's retirment, she moved to Arvada, CO to be near her daughter. For six years she was a resident at the Villas of San Marino where she led a "Life Stories" discussion twice a month. Her greatest joy was her family for whom she loved to write stories about her life. She had several devotionals published and continued to write articles of interest until she fell and broke her hip. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lawrence Zurcher, her parents and three brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Zurcher Stiefel of Saracot, FL and Carolyn Zurcher Horn of Arvada, CO seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, 12:30 PM July 9, 2011 at the Northwest Friends Church, 9889 W. 66th Avenue in Arvada.
