All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Colorado Springs
Wallace Edward Drew
April 1st, 1940 - November 13th, 2020
Wallace Edward Drew, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on November 13, 2020, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born at St. Francis hospital in Colorado Springs, on April 1, 1940 and yes, he was an April Fools baby. He was the oldest of three boys born to the late Wallace Elgin Drew and Viola Needs Drew. Wally grew up on the west side and graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1958. He then worked for his dad in the plumbing business which took him to Aspen for a year. Later he attended Southern Colorado State where he sang in a group performing rock and roll songs that included The Beatles and Elvis. Wally was drafted into the United States Army in July of 1965 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He then was sent to Fort Sill, OK where he was assigned to the motor pool and was in charge of parts and procurement. His company soon had orders for Vietnam but, at the last minute, his orders were changed and he was sent home to Fort Carson, CO to complete his tour of duty in 1967. In 1965, he met Judith Ann Tollman and they were married on March 26, 1966, at First Presbyterian Church in Denver, CO. They had a loving marriage for 54 years. Wally leaves behind two daughters: Kimberly (Jim) Vidmar and Holly (Jason) Morin; brother, Scott Drew; former son-in-law, Troy Lee; two grandchildren, Brenna Lee and Reid Morin; two step grandchildren, Jarrett and Landon Vidmar; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Drew and beloved grandson, Trent Morin. Wally had many different jobs, from selling cars, managing quick lubes to owning his own paint and decorating store. He ended back in plumbing and retired in July 2003 from Jolly Plumbing. Retirement started immediately as he and Judy flew off to Alaska and onto many more adventures. Wally was a history buff and loved anything with a motor especially cars, trains and airplanes. His family was always amazed by all the statistics and facts he knew, and enjoyed many train rides and visits to museums. He had a passion for auto racing which began in 1962 and led him to a 2nd place finish in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb dune buggy division in 1971. Wally was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, Pathfinders Sunday School class where lasting friendships began. He was a member of the Vintage Motorcar Club of America and the “Over the Hill Gang” of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Historical Association. He also served on many Colorado Springs High School reunion committees and loved reconnecting with former classmates. He had a multitude of friends and never knew a stranger. He will be dearly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pikes Peak Hospice, First Presbyterian Church, or your favorite charity. Due to COVID restrictions, we invite you to watch the live stream of the service on December 10 at 2:00 pm at www.firstprescos.org/memorial-livestream/
