Wallace “Wally” Walberg was born on Dec 24th 1956, in Fargo, North Dakota, and died on May 16, 2023 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Wally was the first child of Marlen & Patricia Walberg. He and his younger brothers Rick and David moved with their parents to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1968, living in Fort Collins for the remainder of his life. Wally graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1975 and attended VoTech Community College pursing a Business Degree. From a young age Wally worked side-by-side with his father at several local Texaco Gas Stations, pumping gas and learning the skills of automobile maintenance and repair. In 1977 his father purchased a garage at 243 Jefferson Street in Old Town Fort Collins. The shop had been a tire shop business since 1937, originally named Stevens Brothers Tire Service. After an initial career as an Electro-Chemical Technician at Hewlett-Packard, Wally once again joined his dad working at “Marlen’s Tires”. After his father died of pancreatic cancer in 1987, Wally bought the tire shop and became the owner of Marlen’s Tire, continuing the great tire business tradition at that location. Wally became one of the most trusted and responsible business managers in Old Town. He gained his reputation by word-of-mouth and honest service. In 1996, Wally exquisitely renovated the back third of the historic tire shop and lived there for the next 18 years. He created a garden of beautiful plants and flowers in his “Alley Oasis”. Wally’s gardening skills attracted artists, wedding planners and hundreds of photographers. His gardening skills were as historic as his business skills. Wally retired from the tire business in 2006 to begin a new career as a property manager of several homes in the Fort Collins area. Wally’s mother Pat Jacob was diagnosed with prion disease in April of 2023. Wally was at her side providing care to her, to her husband Reid and to the rest of his family. Devastatingly but with a thread of sweetness, Wally unexpectedly died one day before his mother’s passing due to his on-going medical issues. Wally was preceded in death by his father Marlen Walberg. He is survived by his beloved daughters Amanda Johnson, and Misty VanWinkle, his brothers Rick and David Walberg, three grandchildren; Ryder Rhein, Leo and Mae Van Winkle, three furry felines Sparkle, Lovett and Sugar, and many valued and loved family members and friends.
