Walter Frederick Grossman
June 27th, 1921 - October 6th, 2012
Former Chicago, IL resident, WALTER F. GROSSMAN, age 91, passed from this earth to Glory on Saturday, October 6th, 2012. Walter was surrounded by several of his loving children at the Nathan Adelson Hospice Care Center of Las Vegas, Nevada. Walter was born in Chicago, IL on June 27, 1921 to the late Samuel Paul and late Martha (Kozoiek) Grossman. Walter was an English teacher at St. Cyril's Catholic School of Lemont, IL. It was during this time he found his great love of books and the need to "get as many distributed to as many as can read." Walter began his own business as a Library and Reference Book salesman, working primarily in the 5 states around Chicago, Illinois. As Regional Manager, he received many awards and accolades for his salesmanship and strong work ethic, something he shared with each of his 12 children. Walter was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was well known by his neighbors of Worth, Il, never hesitating to shovel their sidewalks and extend a friendly greeting. He enjoyed rigorous swimming, long distance walking, sharing jokes and wonderful stories of family heritage and the making of this great country. He loved sharing his wisdom and history with anyone that would take the time to listen and learn. Walter and Frances retired after more than 55 cold Chicago winters, enjoying the last 10 in the warmth, sun and beauty of Las Vegas, Nevada, always enjoying family and friends. Walter was married to Frances Margaret (Kumskis) Grossman for 65 years, before her passing, November, 2007, creating a family of 12 children: Antoinette (Bill) Mrowczynski of Lemont, IL, Walter Jr. (deceased, 1965), Alexander (deceased, 1999), Kenneth (Jane) Grossman of Sacremento, CA, Gregory (Donna) Grossman of Tinley Park, IL, Georgia Yarnall of Leesburg, IN, Frank (Ann) Grossman of Chicago, IL, Thomas (Louise) Grossman of Grand Prairie, TX, Mary Grossman of Las Vegas, NV, Pamela (Dr. Gary) Goldberg of Las Vegas, NV, John (Kate) Grossman of Manhattan, IL, and Paul (Nancy) Grossman of Downers Grove, IL. Walter was exceptionally proud of the GROSSMAN legacy he leaves behind; 12 Children, 33 Grandchildren, 44 Great &12 Great-Great grandchildren. It is with bittersweet sadness we say our final goodbyes to Walter. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; 8245 W. 111th St. in Palos Hills, Illinois at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Graveside prayers to follow at St. Casimir's Cemetery; 4401 W. 111th St., Chicago, Illinois.
