Walter Horst

Walter Horst was born on December 29, 1928 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Gus and Margaret Horst. Walter passed to his heavenly home on April 7, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. During Walter’s youth the family farmed on several farms in the Loveland and Fort Collins area. He attended Harmony School through the eighth grade and graduated from Timnath High School in 1948. While attending high school, he met the love of his life, Nancy Stuart. They were married on March 28, 1953 following his return from active duty in the Army and lived in the Loveland and Fort Collins area all of his life. They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Walter and Nancy were blessed with three daughters, Karen French, Paula Matney (Bob), and Vicki Phillips (Dr. Clark). Walter worked in the electronic field, beginning with TV repair and retiring from Hewlett-Packard after 30 years in 1992. Walter and Nancy enjoyed many years of RVing around the country visiting with many friends and family. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, morning coffee and breakfast with friends, and most of all visiting with neighbors and friends as he rode his bicycle around the neighborhood and his time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Walter is survived by his wife Nancy, his three daughters and their spouses, three grandchildren, Julie Jensen (Eric), Lori Becerra (Tom), and Ryan Phillips. Also surviving him are four great-grandchildren, Gunnar, Ragnar and Freyja Jensen, Brody Becerra and numerous cousins, four nephews and a niece along with many cherished friends. Papa, we will miss your quick wit, your fun and "rowdy” sense of humor and your always ever ready and loving helping hand. A Celebration of Life for Walter will be on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 801 North Cleveland Ave, Loveland, Colorado at 2 p.m. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 801 North Cleveland Avenue, Loveland, Colorado 80537.
