Walter Alvin Lyons
December 1st, 1928 - October 22nd, 2017
Walter Alvin Lyons, of Yuba City, CA, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2017, at age of 88. Born December 1, 1928, in Everett, WA, to Floyd and Louise Lyons. Walt was a retired civil eangineer who retired after 35 years with CalTrans (District 3) and 3 years with Boyle Engineering. Some of the projects he worked on were the Donner Pass 1-80, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system and the Sacramento Light Rail system. Walt served 4 years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and graduated from Washington State College in 1957 with a Civil Engineering degree. Walt lived and worked in Sutter County for the last 60 years. He was a baseball coach for many years at Peach Bowl Little League Park. He enjoyed time with his family at the family cabin outside Chester and being around his neighbors and many friends. Walt is survived by son, Lawrence and his wife Linda; son, Donald; and daughter, Jennifer Rice Miller and her husband Robert. He also has three grandsons; Aaron Lyons and his wife Cheryl; Austin Lyons and his wife Kaylee; and Andrew Rice. He also has a sister in Spokane, WA, Donna Edelbrock and her husband Jerry. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Babetta and son Stephen Lyons. Walt's family would like to thank his doctors, Dr. Frasier, Dr. McAfee, Dr. Bajwa, and the staff of Yuba Sutter Dialysis. Ullrey Memorial Chapel is directing the services. Visitation will be this Wednesday, October 25, 2017, between 4 and 6PM. Graveside services will be Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 2PM. In lieu of flowers Walt's family suggest donations to your favorite charity.
