Walter "Walt" J. Malkowicz
August 5th, 1928 - March 23rd, 2021
Mr. Walter J. “Walt” Malkowicz, formerly of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning March 23, 2021 at the Stafford Suites in Sumner, Washington. We will always remember him by the sparkle in his blue eyes and his radiant smile. He was born August 5, 1928 in Amsterdam NY, the son of the late John and Lillian Holub Malkowicz. Walter was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Institute High School Class of 1947 and was a US Army Veteran Serving during the Korean War. He was then employed at the General Electric Company in Schenectady where he worked in the Turbine Manufacturing Department until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement, he was employed at the former Johnson-Lindsay and Rossi Funeral Homes and later the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home in Amsterdam as a funeral attendant for many years. Walt was a communicant of the former St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church and later at Historic St. Mary's Church both in Amsterdam, NY. He was married to Sophie Valikonis Malkowicz for more than 62 years before she passed away on November 17, 2016. Walter is survived by his sons, Warren (Roseanne) Malkowicz of Auburn WA and Paul (Terry) Malkowicz of Ft Myers FL; four cherished grandsons, Andrew, Matthew, Adam and Craig; and great granddaughter, Alice Maureen, along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by a brother, John Miller and sister Louise Kubas. Funeral services for Walter will be held on Wednesday July 21, 2021 at 11:00AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, prior to the funeral service from 9:00 to 11:00 AM a the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Casimir’s Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Montgomery County Office for Aging, 135 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
