Walter J. Miffitt

Belchertown - Walter J. Miffitt, 85, died peacefully on September 23, 2024, at the Veterans' Home in Holyoke, MA. Born on April 6, 1939, in Chicopee, MA, he was the son of Walter and Bertha (Juszynski) Miffitt.Walter spent his formative years in Chicopee and graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. After high school he enlisted in the US Coast Guard and served during the Vietnam Era. He worked as a supervisor for American Electric Cable in Holyoke, where he worked diligently for many years until his well-deserved retirement at the age of 70.He has lived in Belchertown for over 50 years and was a faithful communicant of St. Francis Church. He cherished the moments spent with family playing games and cards, reading books and the newspaper, reflecting his love for knowledge. Walter also enjoyed traveling with his wife.Walter is survived by his loving wife, Susan C. (Perrault) Miffitt, of Belchertown; his son, Christopher Miffitt, of W. Virginia; his daughter, Kate Miffitt Pelley (Kris), of N. Carolina; and his sister Genevieve Wysocki of Florida. He was a proud grandfather to Grace and Noah, who brought incredible joy into his life.In honor of Walter’s life, a calling hour will be held on October 17, 2024 at St. Francis Church from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Springfield.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Veteran's Home at Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
