Walter Livingston Stile, Jr.
July 29th, 1931 - August 18th, 2024
Lifelong local farmer, Walter l. Stile Jr., passed away peacefully at his home on August 18th surrounded by family. He was 93 years young.
Walter was born July 29, 1931 at the original Enloe hospital to Walter and Mabel Stile. He attended Notre Dame School, and Chico High School. In 1949 he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving as base operations field officer at Shepards Air Force Base until his honorable discharge in 1953.
Walter then attended Chico State where he was a member of the Delta Psi Delta fraternity and finished his degree in Agriculture at UC Davis where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
In 1956, he joined his father’s farming business, forming W.L. Stile & Son; farming almonds prunes, and walnuts in Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties. Walter loved farming and was an active participant in the family operation until his death.
Walter was an active member of his community, having been a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, receiving his 75-year pin in 2023. He was also on the Butte County Grand Jury, a member of SIRS and the Prune Bargaining Association.
When he wasn’t farming, (which wasn’t often), Walter enjoyed deer hunting in Manton, weekends in Jonesville, fishing and watching sports on tv. As he got older, he and Patsy enjoyed international traveling. He was an avid card player with Poker and pinochle his forte.
Walter leaves behind his wife Patsy of 45 years, son Walter and (Andrea) Stile, daughter Tracy and (Robert) Vincent, grandchildren Megan and (Joe) Enyeart, Katie and (Kevin) Law, Sloan and (Deonna) Collier, and Olivia Collier, Kayla Collier and great-grandchildren, Calvin, Barrett, and Hartley. He is also survived by his first cousins Charles De Marais Jr., (Anita) and Nanette Zimmerman.
He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Bettijane Shea.
A public grave site service will be held September 14th at 11:00am at Glen Oaks Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Elks lodge.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chico Theater Company.
