Walter Welton
March 12th, 2016
Walter A. Welton of Veneta, Oregon, died early Saturday, February 27, 2016 at his home after a fight with heart complications and Parkinson's. Born in Covina, California August 25, 1951 to Eldean and John Welton. They moved to Elmira, Oregon, and while living there, he attended and then eventually graduated from Elmira High School. He then attended Lane Community College, and took up welding classes. He did marry Carolyn and had two daughters Bobbie and Dondie. In 1976, they decided to move to Petersburg, Alaska and explore the idea of commercial fishing. He eventually accepted a job working for PFI as a refrigeration/engineer worker. Wally and Carolyn welcomed their third daughter, Mandie, shortly thereafter. He also enjoyed playing music on the side, playing drums for the Dick Greseth Band. He later worked for Petersburg Motors as one of their finest mechanics. He and Carolyn later divorced, and in 1986, he moved back to what he considered his hometown, Veneta, Oregon. He was one of the most dedicated employees at Seneca Saw Mill for 25 years, but due to heart complications, retired early. He never remarried, but did fall in love with Alice Nichols, and his heart was content and happy for 16+ years. Survivors include his love, Alice Nichols, and her family; his daughter Bobbie and her husband Eric and their children Shelsey, Guy, Kersten, Tristan, Koby, and Rikki; his daughter Dondie and her husband Eric and their children Lindsey, Hunter, Zachary, and Kyler; his daughter Mandie and her husband Luke and their children Zephrie, Jaren, and Cadum; his son Eric and his children Travis, Tara, Dalton, and Bryson; His brothers Butch, Tim, and Tommy and their families; his sister Cindy and her family; And many other family members, friends, and/or loved ones. Wally will always be known as "the dad tinkering around in his workshop." His greatest passion was his work tools. He has left behind a rich harvest of memories to cherish. His inspiring presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known him. The celebration of life will be held at the Elmira Grange Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2:00. Please bring a dish or appetizer for a potluck that will follow the celebration of life service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elmira Grange for use of the hall.
