Ward Lewis Van Arnam Ward Lewis VanArnam passed away on December 1, 2017 in Tacoma at the age of 89. He was born on July 5, 1928 in Tacoma, WA, and grew up in the Tacoma area, graduating from Clover Park High School in 1946. Ward joined two branches of the military, the US Army in 1946, where he began as a clerk typist, and then the US Air Force from 1950 to 1952. After finishing his military experience, he graduated from Washington State College (University) in 1956 where he met his first wife, Irene, and also received his MAT from the University of Puget Sound in 1969. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at WSU. Ward worked for Sears and then as an Elementary School teacher for over 25 years in the Tacoma School District where he met his second wife, Diane. He is survived by his first wife, Irene and their four children, Linda Bolster (Randy), David VanArnam (Stephanie), Joellen Kenyon (Douglas), Darlene Coleman, stepsons Jeffrey Johnson and Douglas Johnson (Pam), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family gathered in December to remember and celebrate Ward's life. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nyberg Scholarship by contacting the University of Puget Sound.
