Wayne Keith Wickham
October 18th, 1946 - November 15th, 2010
Wayne Keith Wickham, 64, passed away at his home in Ft. Collins, CO, Monday, November 15, 2010. He was born on October 18, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Herbert Dean and Gladys (Walters) Wickham. The family moved to Ft. Morgan, CO and then to Greeley, CO. He graduated from Greeley Central High School, and attended Colorado State College, now UNC graduating with Bachelor and Masters Degrees from the School of Music. Active in Boy Scouts, he achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. Wayne began music lessons early on becoming an accomplished musician on trumpet and piano. He loved jazz. He taught in Great Falls, Montana directing the Great Expectations band program for disabled students, and Great Falls High School Blue Notes Jazz Band. He later became the band and orchestra director at Great Falls East Middle School. He played with the Great Falls Symphony, and numerous ensembles, and taught private students. After his years in Montana, he relocated to New Mexico, and then returned to Montana before settling in Ft. Collins. Wayne loved the outdoors, working in his flower and vegetable gardens, innovative with "container” gardening. He was always creating, whether in music, or his art of jewelry making with his love of stones and gems. He designed and built his own straw-bale house in Montana, unique to the times. Wayne is survived by his wife, Jacque Dooley of Ft. Collins; daughters, Sarah (Todd) Segrest of Greenville, SC, and Cassie (Marc) Santoro of Crestline, CA; his mother, Gladys Wickham of Greeley; a sister, Jan Bielema of Greeley; a niece, Emily (Scott) Hartmann of Broomfield, CO and many cousins. He will be missed by his beloved feline, Mickey. He is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Dean Wickham; and grandparents, Harrison and Leila Wickham and Jake and Elizabeth Walters. Cremation. A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Wayne Wickham Memorial Fund” to support school music programs and music scholarships in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation Services, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634.
