Wilferd LaVerne Wiemers (Bill or Willie to friends and loved ones) died peacefully in his bed on March 3, 2021. He was 89 years old. Bill was born in Alma, Nebraska, on July 25, 1931. His mother died when he was young and he grew up with other relatives in Lincoln, Nebraska and Estes Park, Colorado, the town he forever called home. Bill graduated from EPHS in 1949; entered the Air Force in 1951-55 and married his sweetheart Gladys (Convery) in 1952. They moved to Estes Park, raised 3 children, and spent their lives in the glory of the Rocky Mountains. Bill worked in the Rocky Mtn. Nat’l Park and retired as Facilities and Maintenance Foreman. Primarily, he made signs for the RMNP, a job he treasured. During the summer, he was also a square dance caller. For more than 4 decades, he entertained visitors and families at guest resorts in Estes Park. He perfected a program to teach square dancing in one evening. Bill allemande left nobody behind! Bill and Gladys loved to travel. They also went to so many ball games to support kids and grandkids that it would take a calculator to add up the numbers. In 1994, Bill retired, and they moved to Greeley, CO, to be nearer their children and grandchildren. They shared 53 glorious years together until Gladys’ passing in 2005. Bill later met and married JoAnn Lampis of San Antonio, Texas. They divided their time between Texas and Colorado, spending 10 happy years together until Joann’s passing in 2019. Bill is survived by his 3 children: David (of Fort Lauderdale and Estes Park), Annette (Foote) (Greeley, CO), and Leslie (of Windsor) and his wife Tracey. Four grandchildren include: Robert Harling (Cheyenne, WY) Cassie Musick (Firestone, CO), Corey, (Oklahoma City, OK), and Tanner (Greeley, CO). Also 2 great grandchildren: Brodie and Addy Musick (Firestone, CO).No funeral services will be held. Instead, a private internment will occur next summer to celebrate his nearly 90 years on earth. Next time you have a piece of pie, think of Bill. He loved a good slice of apple pie and enjoyed life a la mode.
