Willa Webb Coulter

Willa Webb Coulter, born September 23, 1917, in Pea Ridge, AR to Frank and Anna (Wardlaw) Webb, suffered cardiac arrest and died May 29, 2015 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Willa, the fifth of six children, was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Byron and Joe Webb and sisters Eva Chandler, Carole McCafferty, and Frankie Jane Coghill. Willa grew up on a farm near Washburn, MO. She was the first in her family to pursue and earn a traditional four-year baccalaureate degree, attending what is now Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. She later earned a Masters degree from University of Mississippi, Oxford. While an undergraduate, she met and married Robert Coulter in 1937. They had 2 children, Robert Coulter, Springfield, MO and Carole Coulter, Charlotte, NC. During her working life, Willa taught business subjects in Missouri and Illinois high schools for 31 years, at a Department of Defense Dependents' school in Seoul, Korea for 1 year and spent the last 4 years of her teaching career as Director of Personnel in a suburban Chicago school. Willa is survived by her two children, three granddaughters, Cathy (Mike) Rudolph, Carrie (Steve) Perry and Christy (Dave) Riel, 6 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. There will be no formal ceremony or memorial except for a gathering of immediate family to reflect on a lifetime of shared memories and the lasting impact Willa had on her family.
