Mr. Arnett, 88, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Elmcroft Assisted Living. He was born on August 16, 1920, in Carlisle, Indiana, to Elmer and Elizabeth Arnett. He grew up in Carlisle, joined the Army early in World War II and served two years in the Pacific. After the war, he and his wife Joan moved to southern California where he worked for many years for General Telephone and he and Joan raised their family of four. After her death in 1988, he met Mary Olive of Charlotte and they were married in 1993. In their retirement years they enjoyed volunteer work with Urban Ministries soup kitchen and Friendship Trays. Mr. Arnett is survived by his wife, Mary, son Jack and wife, Peggy, of Georgetown, TX, son Jim and wife, Sandy, of Santa Maria, CA, daughter Betty Jo and husband, Dick, of Boise, Idaho, stepson Lee Olive and wife, Allison, of Charlotte, eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Dave. A memorial service for Mr. Arnett will be held at a later date.
