William R. Caulfield
December 12th, 2015
William R. Caulfield, Jr. died on December 12, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sheila. Bill was born in South Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1927. He graduated from Abington High School in 1945 and enlisted into the United States Marine Corps serving in Northern China. After his honorable discharge, he entered Bryant and Stratton Commercial School, Boston, Massachusetts, graduating in late 1949. Soon thereafter Bill joined the Central Intelligence Agency where he had a thirty-five year career as a Finance Officer. He spent thirteen years abroad serving in Southern Europe and the Middle East. Bill retired as Deputy Director of Finance for Financial Operations and became an agency consultant for several years. During his years of working for the Agency, Bill’s supervisors praised him for his professionalism, dedication, integrity, and compassion; citing him often as the “perfect person for the position.” His humble beginnings and family values, life and professional skills, personal character strengths, and commitment to public service were a core of his inner moral compass. Throughout his life, Bill volunteered in community activities, serving as a Scoutmaster, treasurer for various organizations, and he also supported local civic associations. Bill is survived by his wife and six children: Andrea, Maura, William, Kevin, Sheila, and Erin as well as 13 grandchildren. Bill’s family gathered for a private Mass and celebration of his life on Sunday, December 13. Arrangements are currently being made for funeral services and interment at the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery. Additional funeral information will be posted as it is known. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill’s honor to Capital Caring Hospice at 4715 15th St N, Arlington, VA 22205 .
