William Russell Christian

William Russell Christian, age 97, of Gate City, VA, born May 16, 1918, in Surgoinsville, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Nova Health and Rehab Center in Weber City, VA. Russell was a Veteran of the United States Army having proudly served his country from April of 1941 to November of 1945 during World War II. He then was employed at J.H. Williams of Buffalo, NY, until his retirement and moved back to this area. He was preceded in death by his father, William G. Christian; mother, Mary E. Alvis Christian; and sisters, Clara Greer, Mae Ison, Ruby Hensley and Ruth Duvall. He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Johns of Maryland and Mary Johnson (Gerald) of Gray, TN; brothers, James Christian (Gladys) of Maryland, John Christian (Ruth) of Church Hill, TN, George Christian (Mary) of Church Hill, TN, and Irvin Christian of Maryland; special niece and caregiver, Eliza Garland; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm with Pastor Steven Alley officiating. Special music will be provided by Carl Seaver. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 ay Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Caney Valley.
