Tribute & Tallent Funeral and Cremations
William Edward Coffey
June 1st, 1933 - June 26th, 2022
William (Bill) Edward Coffey, 89, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022. He was born June 1, 1933 in Fort Mill, South Carolina to the late Ruby and Edd Coffey. He was known to many by the nickname "Pete". Bill graduated from Fort Mill High School and resided in Fort Mill until he joined the Navy in 1952 where he served four years during the Korean War. During his time of service, he and Sylvia faithfully exchanged daily letters to one another. They were married on November 17, 1956 and have celebrated 65 wonderful years together. Bill was a supervisor of auto claims with Aetna Life and Casualty before retiring in 1995. He was a loyal member of First Baptist Church Charlotte for 64 years where he served as a Lifetime Deacon, member of the Senior Mens Sunday School Class and the Thursday morning Mens Prayer Group. He was also well known and loved for partnering with Sylvia as she led and served the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class for over two decades. Bill loved to share stories about his childhood, such as about going to a movie matinee, every Saturday as a young boy, and purchasing a hotdog on the way home, all for 25 cents! His love for his Lord and Savior was expressed in the kindness and encouragement he shared with others. Being a Papaw was one of the greatest joys of his life and he always showered his grandchildren with unconditional love. Bill is survived by his wife, Sylvia, his sons Bryan (Carol) and Mark (Kimberly), his four grandchildren Kendall (Eli), Kirby, Hank and Bayley, and his brother Charles (Mary Ann). A service to celebrate Bills life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 in the Chapel of J.B. Tallent Funeral Services, 1937 N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am with the service following at 11:00 am, officiated by Reverend Michael Cummings. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Benevolence Fund of First Baptist Church Charlotte at 301 S. Davidson Street, Charlotte NC, 28202.
