William Frank Coombs
May 19th, 1948 - January 29th, 2019
William Frank Coombs Jr. William “Frank” Coombs Jr., born on May 19th, 1948 in Eugene Oregon, passed away at the age of 70 on January 29th, 2019 in Graham, WA from cancer at his home. He grew up in The Dalles, Oregon, where he had his first job in his father’s grocery store. He worked there from the age of 4 to 14. He did everything from sorting eggs, bottles, and even being cashier, maybe that’s where he learned to be such a hard worker. Frank attended The Dalles High School, where he enjoyed playing football in his high school career. He worked one Summer for the railroad service, experiencing two major wrecks, leading to shoulder surgery. After high school, Frank went on to receive his Master’s Degree at Portland State University. Shortly after college, he went into the Insurance field. He worked for companies such as Reliance, Trinity and retired from Mutual of Enumclaw. His life revolved around his family. He always made sure he went to every baseball, wrestling, football and soccer game, no matter what (#1 DAD). He coached soccer and little league baseball in the 90’s. Frank also loved to fish, especially with his son Justin and grandkids Sammie and Jason in his boat. One of his very favorite spots to fly-fish was the Deschutes River in Oregon where he requested his ashes to be spread. Retirement life lead him back to wanting to be in a store environment where he had two jobs working at Eatonville Food Co-Op and Ace Hardware. The last year of his life he wanted to have the true retirement feeling of being able to do what he wanted. He enjoyed going to the gym regularly and loved finding new trails to hike with the grandkids. He started restoring his 1955 Chevy truck for a project to keep him busy in his down time, which will now become his grandson Jason’s truck after it’s finished. Frank also enjoyed volunteering at the Orting Senior Center, where he made a lot of good friends. Frank was the type of guy that would be there for anyone that needed a hand with anything, he was very knowledgeable with any type of repair. He’s survived by his son Justin Coombs, daughter-in-law Liz Coombs, their children Samantha and Jason Coombs. His sisters Jehm Roemer, Barbara Jenkins, Beverly Bower and brother Dudley Coombs.
