William ""Bill the Orkin man"" Hurst

William (Bill) W. Hurst The son of William DeVane and Ann Milton Hurst he was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. His family moved back to Jacksonville, Florida where he spent all of his formative years growing up. He Graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1978, and was known to his family,friends and classmates as “Bowdy” Hurst, a nick name given to him by his Beloved Grandfather. After High School he became employed by the Woolco Store in Jacksonville and by 1982 had become the Automotive Department manager. During that summer he met his future wife Debbie and they were married later that same year. They moved to Brunswick, Georgia where Bill pursued his career with the F.W. Woolworth Company as a store manager. During this time, their first son Bryan was born and Bill enjoyed playing tennis with the local tennis association. In 1986 Bill was promoted to his First Store in Goldsboro, North Carolina where later, their second son Michael was born. While there he became a member of the drama team at the Goldsboro First Assembly of God. When the Woolworth stores began closing Bill was able to secure a position at the Cocoa store, and subsequently moved his family back to his home state. He continued his career until the store was closed in 1994. In 1995 he began a new Career with Orkin Pest Control, as a commercial pest control technician for the remainder of his work career. He serviced many businesses and some homes in Viera, Rock ledge, Cocoa, Port Saint John, Titusville, Mims, Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach, where many of his customers referred to him fondly as Bill “The Orkin Man.” During his life in Brevard County he served as a coach and umpire and even the Chief UmpireFor Rockledge Little League from 1995 till 2007. In 1996 he and his wife became board members of the Cocoa Youth Football Association where he coached and in 1997 he became President of this “Pop Warner” League. During his administrative years the league thrived and took on many more dedicated individuals who made the League successful for the children of their community. It was also during this time that his third son Jonathan was born. After a change in leadership in the Board of Directors Bill change his focus to his family and indulged his wife in her pursuit of Martial arts with the Iwatana-Do Kenpo Karate Dojo. He also assisted the dojo from time to time with media needs through photographic & video productions. It was during this time that his 4th son Adam was born. He had also enjoyed fishing, golfing and building and repairing computers as well. He was predeceased by his mother, Ann M. Hurst-Miller & Father, William D. Hurst. His paternal Grandparents, Blanch D. Hurst and Frances W. Hurst as well as, his maternal Grandfather, William (Bud) Milton. He leaves behind his loving wife of 30 years Debbie (Calhoun) Hurst. His loving Sons: Bryan, Michael, Jonathan & Adam Hurst and His loving Grandchildren: Kaydence and Isaac Hurst all of Cocoa, Florida. His loving sister, Charlotte (Deedee) McLaughlin (Bill) of Jacksonville, Florida. His Grandmother, Charlotte E. Milton. His Uncle, Pete (Nell) Milton. Aunts, Von Dakin & Edna (Ralph) Mercer all of Waycross Georgia. His mother-in-law, Lois L. Calhoun and Brothers-in-law, Ronald J. and F. Bruce Calhoun, all of Massillon, Ohio. His Sister-in-Law, Karen E. Jones (Terry) of Southern California. His best friend and “Brother” Floyd (Gator) Joiner of Cocoa, Florida. Plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was greatly loved as a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend and community leader and will be sorely missed. Flowers are appreciated, those who wish may contribute to the Space Coast Cancer Foundation, 490 N. Washington Avenue, Titusville, FL 32796 in Bill's honor.
