William Knott

William Cecil Knott, Jr. 81, died Friday, October 24, 2008 at Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care in Venice. Born August 7, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late William C. and Madeline (Guay) Knott. He served in the US Army from 1946 to 1947.And it was after being discharged from the Air Force that he began to write in earnest. And although he wrote in earnest for the next 15 years, his only sale was one short story. One. Will C. Knott received his A.A. in 1949 and his B.S. in 1951, both from Boston University. He earned his M.A. in 1966 from State University of New York (Oswego). He taught English to junior high students in Connecticut, West Virginia, New Jersey and New York from 1951 to 1967. From 1967 - 1982 he made his living as an English Professor at the State University of New York (Potsdam). He served as president of the WWA in 1981-82. Under his own name and those of Bill Knott, Bill J. Carol, Tabor Evans and Bryan Swift, Will C. Knott has written and published more than 125 children's fiction, adventure, crime, suspense, mystery and Western novels. His books include Junk Pitcher (1963), Backboard Scrambler (1963), Circus Catch (1963), Scatback (1964), Danger at Half Moon Lake (1968), Journey Across the Third Planet, Vengeance Seaker, 3 Vols., Caulder's Badge, Kiowa Blood, Stampede, THe Golden Mountain (Ace Books, 1984), Red Skies over Wyoming, Killers Canyon, The Return of Zach Stuart (Ace Books, 1984), Lyncher's Moon (Ace Books 1984), Longarm and the Avenging Angels, Longarm and the Loggers, Longarm and the Hatchet Men, Longarm in Lincoln County, Mission Code: King's Pawn, Mission Code: Minotaur, Mission Code: Springboard, Golden Hawk (New American Library, 1986). Will C. Knott has also written such nonfiction books as Craft of Fiction (1973), Craft of Non-Fiction (1974), and How to Write and Publish Your Novel (Reston, 1982). He is survived by his wife of 15 years; Amada "Ada" Knott of Englewood, three daughters; Carolyn Summers of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY., Judy Sullivan of Jacksonville, FL., Frances Knott of Edwards, NY., Kimberly Claire Knott and Maria Cristina Knott both of the Philippines; his son: William C. Knott, III of Cumming, GA. and seven grandchildren; Katy, Chelsey, Casey, Liz, Kelly, David and Daniel.
