William Edward McCormick
July 24th, 1914 - November 8th, 2010
William Edward "Bill" McCormick Jr. McCORMICK, William Edward Jr. "Bill" 96, passed away peacefully Nov. 8, 2010. Bill grew up at Pass-A-Grille, attended local schools and graduated from St. Petersburg High School and University of Florida where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Bill served as Communications Officer in the U.S. Navy during WW II and later was Commander in the Naval Reserve in both Tampa and St. Petersburg. He was an Adjudicator with the Veterans Administration and retired in 1967. Bill was a quiet, patient and compassionate man. He was a loving husband, a wise and understanding father and a fun-loving grandfather. Everyone who knew him called him either "Gran" or "Uncle Bill," whether related or not. Bill was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, the Retired Officers Association, the Over the Hill Gang, St. Petersburg High School Alumni Association, the University of Florida Alumni Association and a 60 plus year member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. Bill is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Elinor. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Sealey and Barbara Heck; three granddaughters, Susan Heck, Suzanne Walker, Sarah Jacques; one grandson, Rex M. Heck and 5 great-grandchildren, Tyler Heck, Christina Jones, Seth Walker, Samantha Walker, Andrea Jacques. A Memorial Mass will be Dec. 4th, at 11 am at St. Raphael's Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to your favorite charity in memory of Bill McCormick.
