William Robert Montz was born on August 31, 1939 to Robert and Victoria Berglund Montz in an upstairs bedroom, while downstairs his father and U.S. Millitary officers listened to radio broadcast of the German advance into Poland. His birth was on what is known as the Lutz Farm in the rural Willows/Artois area, where his parents were living. His death came December 8, 2019 at Enloe Hospital in Chico, California. His childhood and youth were spent on the Lutz Place, between Willows and Artois. He attended both Artois and Willows schools. His senior year of high school, the family moved to their newly built home on the Montz family ranch, north of the Blue Gum Restaurant on old highway 99. A 1958 graduate of Willows High School. Bill, as he preferred to be called, was forever kind, thoughtful and generous. On July 17, 1989 Bill and Linda Mix were wed. Survivors other than his wife Linda Montz include: 1 sister- Monta Thomasson and family of Auburn, California; 2 sons – Shannon Dollarhide of Willows and bob Montz of Sacramento, California; 2 daughters – Shelli Hutchinson of Willows and Leanna Nordyke of Elk Creek, California; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; numerous cousins and their families, as well as all who deemed him a friend. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Maureen Dixie Montz. He loved old cars and was a masterful mechanic. At a young age, he became an accomplished pianist and played organ for worship services at the Christian Science Church in Willows. Bill requested no funeral or memorial services be held, asking that in lieu those wishing to recognize his passing do so in his memory with donations to Enloe Medical Center in Chico, or to Glenn Medical center in Willows. He lovingly appreciated the valiant and caring efforts of medical and emergency staff at both hospitals and of the emergency Enloe Air medical team and pilot.
