William C. Sutherland

November 5th, 1942 - August 26th, 2015

William Clyde Sutherland, 72, of Aloha, Oregon passed into eternal glory with the Lord at 4:20 pm on the 26th day of August in Legacy Salmon Creek, Vancouver, Washington. Being diagnosed with Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2007, Will continued to live life to the fullest enjoying his family and friends, never loosing his sense of humor and gift of gab. Will was born on November 5, 1942 in Oakland, California to William Clarence Sutherland and Cecile Frances Fena who preceded him in death. He was married to Margaret Taormina on June 9, 1979 in Gibson Park, Great Falls, Montana. He graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1961 going onto San Jose State University earning a five year bachelors degree in education and psychology. Will joined the Army Reserve during the Viet Nam war. He instructed military occupational skills until retiring after thirty years. Will worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for fourteen years. He was hired at Nike World campus when Southern Pacific moved their offices to Los Angeles, California. Being retired from Nike after sixteen years Will worked with special needs children up until his final months. He spent his weekends overseeing the grounds at the Walker and 158th Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. He was an amateur astronomer, historian, trivia geek who had a love most of all for aviation and flying. He never missed an opportunity to witness Jesus Christ to others stating, “God gave me a heart for the lost and I love people.” Will is survived by his wife Margaret Taormina Sutherland of thirty-six years, his daughter Kathleen Defilippi of Atlanta, Georgia, Scott Sutherland of Seal Beach, California, Benny Sutherland of Moab, Utah, David Sutherland of Oregon City and Samuel Sutherland of Portland, Oregon.
