William Tyrrell
June 10th, 1936 - January 13th, 2014
Mr. William Tyrrell, 77, of Gloversville, passed away January 13, 2014 at Ellis Hospital following a long illness. He was born June 10, 1936 in Gloversville, son of the late George and Elizabeth Dwyer Tyrrell. Mr. Tyrrell was educated in Berkshire schools and served in the Air Force from 1956-1959. Early in life, Bill enjoyed drag racing at Fonda Speedway and continued to enjoy the sport as his son and especially his grandson, raced as well. Bill also loved bingo and casino travels. Although disabled in a motorcycle accident years ago, Bill was a hard worker and had been employed in the leather business most of his life, retiring from the former Carville Leather as a supervisor He was a member of the VFW in Gloversville and a life long animal lover, always accepting strays and refusing to turn away any animal. Survivors include his wife Eva Horning Tyrrell of Gloversville, his children; Jeffrey Tyrrell Patty of Gloversville, David Tyrrell Shelly of Troy, Karen Tyrrell Mark of Johnstown, Darla Tyrrell of Houston TX., Patricia Tyrrell Dave of Gloversville and a step-son Kevin Nellis of St. Johnsville. Mr. Tyrrell is also survived by his brothers; Arthur Tyrrell of N.Carolina and Melvin Tyrrell of Schoharie, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son William E. Tyrrell and a step-son Dr. Gregory B. Nellis. A funeral service will be held 4 pm Thursday January 16, 2014 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. with Reverend David Almleaf officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 pm prior to the service. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the James Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Rd., Gloversville, N.Y. 12078.
