Wilbur Jr., William C. 94, of St. Petersburg, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in Charleston, SC, he graduated summa cum laude from Washington and Lee University, and received his PhD from Columbia University. He was a US Army Air Corps Captain serving in WWII. He was professor of history at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. He was a Danforth Foundation Associate and served as secretary of the Faculty of Christian Fellowship Mid Atlantic region. He relocated here in 1960 to become one of the founding faculty of Florida Presbyterian College, now Eckerd College, where he taught history and was the chairman of the Division of History and Social Sciences from 1962 to 1973. He was a member of Maximo Presbyterian Church, Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Nu fraternity, ASPEC, and the Huguenot Society. He served as president of the Florida AAUP and the Suncoast Branch of the English Speaking Union. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Hutchinson. He is survived by son, W. Cuttino Wilbur III (Cutty); daughter, Margaret Hutchinson Wilbur (Peggy) and 4 nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Eckerd College chapel.
