Wilma Phelps
November 14th, 1923 - June 7th, 2024
Wilma Sandborn Phelps was born in Wichita Kansas on November 14, 1923, and peacefully went home to our LORD on June 7, 2024. She grew up during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression in Ashland, Kansas. During high school she worked as a telephone switchboard operator, lettered in basketball, and was the Drum Majorette for her high school band where she also played the violin, Wilma with husband, Major William D. Phelps, ended a long life of moving around and world travel in military life to settle in Albuquerque where she lived for 48 years enjoying her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many dogs and painting in water colors.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her brothers Rodney and Rosco, her sister Edna, as well as her granddaughter Tannoth. She is survived by her son Bill Phelps Jr. (Ohio), daughters Yvonne Loubet (NM), Teena Morris (NM), and Pam Wilson (AZ). Her grandchildren, Kendra McConnel (England), Nicole Skullen (Ohio), Ezra Turney (AZ), Andrea Phelps (Ohio), Danny Phelps (Ohio), Cimmon Lewis (AZ), Seth Morris (NM), Zachary Wilson (AZ) Traf’n Lawrence (NM), Joshua Wilson (AZ). Her great grandchildren, Andy Lewis, Allora Lewis, Morgan Giampaulo, Kyle Giampaulo, Michaela Sanchez, Avi Franklin, Angel Phelps, Raven Phelps, Seth Morris Jr., and Mo’nika Morris.
Wilma was a woman of great beaty, grace and tremendous creativity. She will be missed by those who love her.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM on August 5, 2024, at 12:30 PM, where a brief internment ceremony will be held. Feel welcome to join the family for a celebration of her long life.
