Winona Mae Sjothun

December 10th, 1922 - July 22nd, 2014

She played basketball in high school, played piano by ear in her younger years and fried the best trout dinner I ever had the pleasure to eat. She was Winona “Winnie” Mae Sjothun. Winnie was born on a farm in Gwinner, North Dakota, December 10, 1922. Born to parents Edwin and Blanche, sister to Wanda, Marvin, Gayland, Donald, Delores, and Marlene. Wife to Kenneth for 23 years and significant other to Terry Cavanaugh for 27 years. Mother to Gerald, Denis, Bonnie, Lee, and Barbara. Grandmother to Tracey, Scott, Chris, Amy, Greg, Nick, Jamie, Allison and Chad, and 20 great grandchildren. She worked at the airport in Great Falls, Montana and Lani Louie’s Chinese Restaurant in Milwaukie, Oregon. She retired in her early 50’s to enjoy fishing, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, working in her yard and gardening. After losing her husband in 1966, she was a single parent doing what she needed to do to finish raising her children. In the early 70’s she moved from Molalla to Milwaukie where she met Terry Cavanaugh and were together until his death. She moved to King City in her 80’s and lived at both Summerfield and Riverwood retirement homes. A graveside service will be held on Thursday July 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Adams Cemetery in Molalla, Oregon.
