Mildred Yvonne Swindle Bastian of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Monroe and Richfield, Utah returned home to our Heavenly Father on March 6th, 2023. She left this life as she lived it; quietly and with grace, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home. What a joy to be united with her husband Max, sons Rock and Kelly, grandsons Kyle and Lane, as well as so many other loved ones that preceded her to Heaven. Yvonne was a loving and supportive wife to Max for 65 years. Cherished mother to Kelly Bastian (deceased), Toni Kingston (Paul), Rock Bastian (deceased) (Melanie), Kimberlee Schreiber, Yvette Merrell (Orson), Anecia Sisneros (Beau) and Robyn Bastian. Max and Yvonne leave a legacy of 24 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. Yvonne was born November 10th, 1930 to Charles Emil Swindle and Hazel Robinson in Monroe, Utah. She was the 7th of 10 children, the last passing at birth. She is preceded in death by all but one of her siblings: Keith Swindle (Irene) both deceased. Max Swindle (Cleva) both deceased, Emil Swindle (deceased) (Sharon), Rae Hodson (Hod) both deceased, LaVee Ogden (Hal) both deceased, Maureen Davis (Roy) both deceased, John Swindle (deceased) (Sharon), Shirley Feulner (Stan-deceased). Yvonne was a happy individual and active in her youth. She enjoyed school and participated in many clubs and functions. She was Seminary Secretary, Historian for her Junior class, participated on the Debate team, played the saxophone in the school band, acted in two school plays, Editor of her Senior Yearbook and Centennial Queen for Monroe. She also enjoyed playing sports. Yvonne especially loved Home Economics. She went to the University of Utah on a Home Economics scholarship. Yvonne utilized these skills throughout her life. She sewed many articles of clothing for her family that included western shirts, jockey silks, wedding and prom dresses, and even doll clothes! She was an excellent cook, baker and canned extensively. Every child and grandchild looked forward to her scones and strawberry jam. Yvonne married Leo Max Bastian on August 23rd, 1950 in the Logan Temple. And so began her new life as a wife and mother. She supported Max through many jobs, moves and adventures. She was the calming factor and stabilizing rudder of the Bastian Family ship. She could rapidly put together a lunch and thermos of hot cocoa for a spontaneous fishing, tubing or hunting adventure. Yvonne loved to play outdoors and join in the fun. Her smiles and laughter were contagious. She enjoyed playing cards and often silently won the game. Yvonne loved to read, especially her scriptures. She instilled in her family honesty, service and love of the Lord. She enjoyed many callings in the Church and served with humility and a true desire to help others. Yvonne’s children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all that loved her will miss her twinkling eyes. She could convey her thoughts with the rise of an eyebrow, wagging of her finger or a simple short reply. She had quick wit and joyfully participated in jokes and family games. Her son Kelly described her as “his beauty queen” and she was; in spirit, example, kindness, love of life and family. As Yvonne aged, dementia diminished her ability to read and her memory dimmed, but her inner light continued as a source of inspiration and love to all. She never lost her zest for life. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for Cheyenne Meadows Ward, Ridgeview Ward, the loving care and comfort provided by Rocky Mountain PACE, her extraordinary care giving team, and the tender end of life care provided by Abode Hospice of Colorado.
