Yvonne R. Marx
August 13th, 1955 - July 18th, 2018
Yvonne Robertson Marx, age 62, passed away on July 18, 2018 at 7:30pm at home in Jessamine County, Kentucky, surrounded by numerous family members. She is survived by her husband, Jim, her children, Andrew, Nicole, Simone and Celine, as well as grandchildren Luke, Jenna and C.J., her parents, James and Barbara Robertson, also of Jessamine County, and her sister, Theresa Robertson (Michael) of Boston. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces scattered across the country. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Yvonne did most of her growing up in Carrollton, Kentucky. She graduated from Carroll County High School in 1973, and went on to pursue a degree in education at the University of Kentucky, later completing her graduate education at the University of South Florida. After graduation from UK, she returned to Carrollton to teach in the county school system for a few years. She left there to seek adventures elsewhere, and after some wild times in southern California, she settled in the Florida Keys where she found her soul mate and partner for life at the age of 30, when she married loner marine biologist Jim Marx in Marathon. Her professional career was devoted to the learning of others. She taught special education, and went on to Vice Principal, Principal, and technology roles. She introduced technology into Kate Sullivan Elementary School in Tallahassee, FL; an effort that gained her recognition from the Governor of FL and the First Lady of the United States in 1997. In 2000, Yvonne received the Young Mother of the Year award. In recent years, Yvonne was a private consultant for a company that specialized in training, computing and new teaching technologies in KY, and was active in the Kentucky Education Association, working to ensure fair and equitable benefits for retired educators. She attended Nicholasville United Methodist Church, where she was active in children’s ministries. Yvonne was a high energy person who was intentional and thoughtful, always more concerned with the needs of others than those of her own. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. Her perfect vacations were centered around a beach. Yvonne fought her rare form of ovarian cancer for 2+ years with incredible grace and beauty, and no small degree of defiance. She will be remembered most for her love of her children, her strong commitment to family, and her ability to maintain a positive attitude in any situation. A Celebration of Life will take place from 2 – 7 pm at Clark Legacy Center, 601 E. Brannon Rd, Nicholasville, KY on August 25, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Kentucky Education Association, 401 Capital Avenue, Frankfort, KY 40601 (designate ‘In memory of Yvonne Marx’ on the envelope).
