Zelma Zitars was born in Livani, Latvia on June 3rd 1918. She passed away at her home in University Place on July 20, 2015 at the age of 97. Zelma and her family moved to the United States after World War II, spending a year in Mississippi before settling in Tacoma, where she lived for 19 years. In 1970 the family moved to University Place where she spent the next 45 years. Zelma retired from the Tacoma Club after 17 years and also worked at People's Store and St. Joseph's Hospital. Zelma is survived by her sons Sig and Imants(Lucky), daughter-in-laws Dawn and Dianne, grandson Kelly, great-grandson Sterling, and her sister Erna. Preceded in death by Julijs, her husband of 55 years, sons Gunars and Vilnis (Bill), and daughter Dace. Zelma enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, her house, her dog Minnie, and taking care of her family. She was a remarkable woman and will be greatly missed.
