Edward J. Sharkey of North Port passed away on August 20th; he was 73 years old. Born on September 30, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA; he graduated from Roman Catholic High School and was a life long resident there until moving to North Port 25 years ago. He was an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the V.F.W., North Port Seniors Center, the Old Bastards Club and was an Honorary Alumni of Notre Dame. He was a member of San Pedro Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife Dolores; two daughters, Susan McCloe of North Port and Karen McDermott of Philadelphia; son Edward J. Sharkey of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Catherine Carroll of Lafayette Hill, PA and Eleanor Carroll of Leesburg, VA; six grandchildren, Robert McCloe and Edward M. Sharkey both of Orlando, Christopher, Jason and Deanna McDermott all of Philadelphia, Heather Sharkey of Port Charlotte; step granddaughter Michele Nelson of Venice; two great grandchildren, Breanna Sanchez and Makala McDermott both of Philadelphia.
