"Brimfield, Paul G. Giard, Sr, 76, died on Friday, June 2 at Baystate Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Ware, MA on June 15, 1940, he was the son of Victor and Rose Giard. Paul and his family resided in East Springfield for many years, relocating to Brimfield in 1999. He was employed by Liberty Liquors for many years until his retirement and was a talented 18 wheel truck operator, working for various companies including the US Postal Service for many years before his retirement. Paul's children remember their time with him in many ways; riding on the milk truck early on weekend mornings, visiting farms seeing new born calves and foals and picking up the raw milk and transporting the milk to the plant. Paul enjoyed spending weeks during the summer camping in Lake George, or spending time at a beach front cottage in Misquamicut. Paul was an assistant Boy Scout master as well as an East Springfield Athletic Association soccer coach. Paul "The Can Man" operated a recycling business with the advent of the Massachusetts Bottle Bill. In later years Paul enjoyed permanent camping with family and friends at Patridge Hollow campground in Monson. The family moved to Brimfield from East Springfield where Paul enjoyed his time with his two grandchildren, tending horses, a garden, and the pool. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Joan (Champagne) along with their three children, Paul Jr. and his wife Tamara of Plymouth, MA, Steven and his partner Dianne Quinn of Westfield and Michelle Zanardi and her husband Bryan of Brimfield along with his two grandchildren, Victor and Franco. His sister, Estelle Wells of Alamogordo, NM also survives him. He was predeceased by his sister Jeanne Bright and brother Bernie Giard All services are private and Beers & Story Palmer Funeral home has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105."
