"Palmer - Gertrude "Trudy" (Ring) Canterbury, 85, longtime Palmer resident of Palmer, died on November 24, 2016 in Birch Manor Nursing Home. Born July 31, 1931 in Westfield, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Luella (Abbott) Ring. Trudy grew up in Westfield, before relocating to Palmer, where she lived most of her life. She worked as a Supervisor at the Food Basket in Palmer for 25 years, ran a ceramic business, Ceramic Cellar, and later worked at Armatas Supermarket in Monson before retiring. After retirement she worked as a crossing guard for several years. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church and active in the Women's Fellowship, helping to provide many meals and pies over the years. She was also a member of the Palmer Lions Club and served the Palmer Food Share. Trudy started a sewing group called the Cut-ups who made quilts and hats for people in need and served as a volunteer at the Springfield Rescue Mission. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 66 years , Robert R.Canterbury, along with her children, Robert R.and partner Beth Reed of Wilbraham, Richard and wife Joyce of Collegeville, PA, Lou Ann Grimes of Enfield, CT, Ruth Scheunemann and husband Randy of West Farmington, OH, and Amy Beth Herring and husband Matthew of Springfield, along with her 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She also leaves her siblings, David Ring of Westfield, Roger Ring of Brookfield, and Patricia Foss of Claremont, NH. Besides her parents, Trudy was preceded in death by her sister Susan Davidson, and brothers Laurence Ring, Jr. and Robert Ring, daughter, Linda Perry (2014) and son-in-law Bill Perry (2010). Her funeral service will be held at Second Congregational Church, on Tuesday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery Calling hours will be Monday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home 1475 N. Main St, (Rte 20). To honor her memory, please make donations to the Palmer Food Share, Central St., Palmer. "
