Juanita Estel Bean

Juanita Estel (Miller) Bean, was a resident of Merrywood on Park, Charlotte, NC, passed away on December 6, 2018 at the age of 98. She was born April 23, 1920 in St. Louis, Mo to Raymond and Amanda Miller. Her younger sister Connie is deceased. Juanita is survived by her son Dale C. Hogue, Sr. and his wife Carolyn who live in Charlotte, NC and three grandsons and their families; Curtis, Michelle, Adalie, Brayden and Cal of Westport, CT; Sean, Janeen, Barrett and Alexander of Charlotte, NC and Stuart, Gina, Ridgely and Anna of Portland, OR, and a niece JoAnn Sikora of Kansas City, Mo. She has two surviving stepchildren, Linda Torcia of Sun City, FL and David Bean and family of Columbus, OH. Juanita retired from the Department of the Army, Army Material Command where she worked as an auditor. She was proud of her work on the Chinook helicopter project. Juanita was an early member of the DOD council for workforce equality as the first female member. Juanita began her government service at the beginning of WWII in St. Louis and later moved to the metro DC area to Work for the Department of the Army. She moved to Sun City Center, FL in retirement with her second husband Jack Bean. Juanita served the nation proudly as a member of the Department of Defense and received numerous awards for her service. Juanita was of The Lutheran (Missouri Synod) faith. Her maternal ancestors were Lutheran families who migrated from Dresden Saxony in 1838 and brought their faith with them, which they established in southeast Missouri along the Mississippi river and St. Louis. They were founders of the early Lutheran Seminary in Wittenberg, Mo. Interment will be with her family in Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. She contributed to many charities including the Cancer Society. Her favorite was the Lutheran Hour.
